Join us during Treasures at the Town Center for a free celebration of local author Alex Ebenstein and his spooky middle grade and adult horror works. Alex, also writing as A.J. Stein, will have make-or-take spooky crafts for kids, tweens, and grown-up horror fans so you can either make something creepy with us in the shop or grab a kit and instructions to take home for when you're ready to unleash your inner craft goblin.
We believe in rewarding people for doing things they were probably going to do anyway (like reading spooky books during October) so there will also be chances to enter Alex's drawing for a Bookshop.org gift card. There are several ways to enter: complete the bookshop scavenger hunt, purchase a book from Alex, or leave an online review of one of his previous works you've already read.

The Holland Writers Group is a peer-led critique group for writers of all genres and experience levels. Meeting on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month (barring bookshop conflicts), the group offers a supportive, constructive space to share work, receive feedback, and stay accountable to your writing practice.

Stories that have been challenged or banned have sparked conversation and controversy across the country. At This Book Club Is Banned, we select our reading list from titles named on the American Library Association and PEN America lists of banned or challenged books, and explore them together in community.
In recent years, attempts to censor or restrict access to books have surged. The American Library Association has documented thousands of book challenges each year, far more than in previous decades, targeting a wide range of voices and experiences. This club isn't just about reading; it's about understanding why certain stories provoke debate, recognizing the value of diverse perspectives, and celebrating the freedom to read openly and with curiosity.

Scents & Sensibility is a recurring series of intimate, hands-on fragrance classes at The Bluestocking Bookshop, happening every other Thursday evening. Each session features a different creative project and a curated selection of fragrances to explore, blend, and make your own. For $20, you'll get all the supplies and guidance you need to create something wonderful while spending an evening playing with scent, chatting with fellow fragrance enthusiasts, and generally doing something a little more interesting than whatever else you had planned for your Thursday night. Sessions run 5:30-7pm and have limited seating, so grab your ticket early.
Things get a little witchy after dark. Midnight Margaritas is a low-key fragrance session where you'll blend your own custom pulse-point oil from a curated selection of citrus, herbs, dark fruits, woods, smoke, and boozy-inspired scents. Think margarita night, but make it mysterious.

Welcome to Textual Healing, the book club where we read romance without apology, from sweet to spicy, and everything (or everyone) deliciously in between. Join us for a relaxed coffee chat with Doug Einfeld, Christian pastor and author of In the Shadow of the Most High: Uncovering My Jewish Ancestors' Perilous Journey Through History. Doug will share the story behind his discovery that his paternal ancestors were Jewish and the historical journey that followed from the ancient Near East through medieval Europe and through generations shaped by survival, persecution, faith, and resilience. Doug draws on both his pastoral experience and historical research to explore the connections between Jewish and Christian history and the stories that can remain hidden within families for generations.
Come have a cup of coffee, listen, ask questions, and consider what history can teach us, not just about where we've been, but about the values and choices we carry forward.
